There is growing interest at the post graduate level to learn the traditional Kampo methods of treating internal medicine diseases. In particular, there is a keen interest in some of the more practical, hands-on methods of assessment unique to the Kampo system, such as Fukushin (Abdominal Diagnosis).
The North American Kampo Consortium represents a collaborative effort to facilitate higher education initiatives in delivering Kampo education in the form of training programs, seminars and conferences. Its inaugural project is an International Kampo Conference offering a broad perspective of the Kampo system through presentations and hands on practice in lecture and workshop format. There will be material of interest to beginners in the field as well as seasoned practitioners of East Asian Medicine. A variety of topics of clinical significance designed to illustrate the scope of the Kampo system will be presented by a group of international Kampo experts from Japan, Europe and United States. This is the very first event of its kind to be held in the United States and will take place in sunny southern California.
