Practical Moxibustion 2011

October 22-23, 2011
Theory, physiology & practice

With Junji Mizutani

The purpose of this course is to develop student’s moxibustion technique and increase each individual’s knowledge of moxibustion in general. Moxibustion is one of the traditional methods of Japanese Medicine but is rarely taught in-depth in acupuncture colleges in the United States. This seminar will focus on the basic theory of moxibustion, the physiology of moxibustion, and the practice of effective local techniques. This course will allow students to immediately apply moxibustion techniques in their clinical practice. Mizutani Sensei will demonstrate basic moxa techniques and students will be given significant practice time to hone their skills. The effects of moxa on the autonomic nervous system will also be covered in detail. The seminar will also address how to use moxa for symptomatic treatment of digestive problems, gynecological issues, low back pain, and other common ailments often seen in a clinical setting.
