Dr. Claudia Sheils is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, a Registered Nurse and teaches at Southwest Acupuncture College. In addition to being an educator, a researcher, and contributor to various medical journals, Dr. Sheils has a private family practice specializing in traditional Japanese meridian style acupuncture. Recently she has started treating patients at Pinon Community Acupuncture Clinic where she brings her extensive experience, compassionate care and passion for Japanese acupuncture.
Dr. Sheils came to Oriental Medicine after 35 years in healthcare and human services, including work as a registered nurse resident at UNM Hospitals working with children in long term care. She spent 15 years as a research assistant and co-authored papers published in various medical journals.
Dr. Sheils was also a special education teacher, a witness manager expert for Major Crime Prosecutions in Canada, and a mental health counselor. All these experiences have been instrumental in contributing to Dr. Sheils’ broad spectrum approach in understanding and dealing with the complexities of individualized health care.
She shares her time between Santa Fe, New Mexico and Victoria, British Columbia.
